I know that each of us has a charity and/or cause that is near and dear to our hearts. I have several but one that I am extremely passionate about is Make It Right 9. Since it's inception I have been there. I have watched the people reach out, the homes being built and the lives being restored. I have blogged about it before and in case you have missed the posts - here they are again.
Make It Right 9 - They Need Us!
So, What DOES Raleigh and Brad Pitt Have in Common???
Today I received a "Thank You" email that really touched my heart. It was an update on the projects, a recap of the progress and a reinstatement of the vision. I wanted to share that email with you:
| Make It Right Welcomes Residents Back Home for the Holidays |
|
Dear Make It Right Community, This holiday season we are celebrating the return of families into new Make It Right homes in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. |
|
For former residents of the Lower 9th Ward still trying to return home, this is why Make It Right exists. More than three years after Hurricane Katrina, many residents of this community are still displaced and struggling to rebuild their lives. We started the Make It Right Foundation to provide a hand up to those families who desire to return home and to help preserve the unique culture, heritage and spirit of the Lower 9th Ward. With your generous support, we can continue to rebuild a neighborhood of safe, sustainable, and affordable homes in one of the hardest hit communities in Louisiana.
Please consider Make It Right in your "End of Year" giving plans. |
I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to ask that you please visit the Make It Right 9 website and see for yourself the passion, determination and committment that this foundation epitomizes. Even as the years pass my heart breaks everytime I receive an update email, wear my Make It Right 9 t-shirt and visit the website. While time normally heals all wounds this is one wound that has gone much deeper and will resonate for years if not decades beyond.
Thanks so much for visiting and should you feel so inclined I know that Make It Right 9 would be grateful for any donation, whether monetary or time, that you could extend. This isn't about me, this isn't about my company, this is about taking care of those that need us - STILL! Don't let it fade from your memory!

Leesa,
Great blog, really. You know that house is actually very nice from the looks of it. It really disgust me how Nawlins has been left to rot so to speak. I'm happy that his type of charity & people like you are willing to remind all of us that just because it's out of headlines it doesn't mean the pain & suffeing has ended.
Merry Christmas.
All the hype and notoriety right after the hurricane we need to help these people. I can't imagine what I would do if it happened to me.
greg - thanks SO much for your kind words. it breaks my heart as well what happened and what continues to plague that area. slowly but surely and with little baby steps things are being done!
terry - I can't imagine either - just horrible!
Leesa! Great update! I'm glad they are bringing back homes that are as vivid as the lost heritage! Hopefully things will continue to move forward and bless this group!
What a great idea, but I have been to the 9th ward before Katrina and I didn't see any homes that look like that WOW. Does the insurance compaines pay anything and they Make It RIght, puts in on top of that. I am going back with a church next month I think I will have to go and see some of this. Thanks for the post.
Ok, so Brad is hot plus he is working so hard to try to make it better. Thanks for sharing Leesa . It is so sad what has happened to New Orleans, it is one of my favorite cities. I hope Brad can get them all adopted!
This is a great charity -- I am glad to know that people have not forgotten those who are still trying to return to their former life.
My baby brother was one of the National Guardsmen from Oregon that came to assist with this tragedy - and we have all given to places such as this - it really touches me to see others helping - thanks
eleanor - this group has extreme committment - it is beautiful to see what they are doing!
charles - if you are fortunate enough you should go and visit the project! the website is fantastic for answering your questions - very informative!
cristal - i guess in essence that is what he has done, huh?
Leesa,
This issue is very close to home for me. Everyone in my family was in some way effected by Katrina. I was in New Orleans working with the Red Cross and to this day I still have nightmares about the things I saw.
But as always, good people rise to the occasion and MAKE IT RIGHT. Thank you for posting this and reminding people that just because it isn't all over the news doesn't mean it is any better.....
You are an angel.
Nice. I really like the fact that the home in the picture has been built on pillars. After first visiting South Texas and Padre Island and seeing the homes there, and then visiting New Orleans, which is below sea level, I always wondered why the homes in New Orleans were not built on pillars like those in South Texas. It should help prevent a lot of Katrina/Rita-like problems in the future.
cherimie - yes, it is heartbreaking STILL! Make It Right 9 is working tirelessly in rebuiliding lives. I can't imagine what you saw while you were there - i remember your post just recently about the lasting effects of Katrina and your family and it just broke my heart.
jim - i do so hope that the area can be built to better withstand a blow in the future. i am not sure what can top Katrina but these folks have endured more than humanly possible. it is organizations like Make It Right 9 that restore my faith in humanity.
Leesa
What a nice post. There really is a lot of good people in life.
Sincerely
Tom Braatz
you're welcome. ;)
tom - thank you! I am so happy that I know you and can say that you are one of those nice people!
greg - through your sense of humor (albeit warped - enormously!) you are one of THE most genuine and caring people I have met on here!
