I posted way back in January about this extraordinary project in this hopes of having people getting interested and searching within themselves of how they might contribute. The post was So, What DOES Raleigh and Brad Pitt Have in Common??? While that post may have been about the correlation between Raleigh and Brad Pitt the subtext of the post was serious.
And now, on a more somber note and with a genuine request from the heart, I ask that you revisit Make It Right 9. As a result of the greatest natural disaster in U.S. history, Make It Right 9 formed to help rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward. It wasn't (and isn't) a typical rebuild. It is a project about re-building green and affordable housing. The MIR (Make It Right) project focuses on the goal of constructing 150 homes (one of the larger rebuilding projects in the city), with an emphasis on developing an affordable system that could be replicated.
In addition to the MIR project there is The Pink Project. * Pink is a virtual city of Hope. A hybrid of art, architecture, cinema and media, Pink is conceived as an informational, commemorative, communication tool which raises awareness and activates individual participation to heal local wounds in need of global aid. *From The Pink Project website
Make It Right 9 needed us then and they still need us now. My only hope and prayer is that they don't lose all of their efforts to the impending Hurrcanes Gustav and Hannah.

Leesa, we'll say some prayers that the next two hurricanes do not undo any work thus far that has helped the Lower Ninth Ward.
Great post Leesa, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I pray Gustav doesn't hit hard.
All the best!
Leesa, I am familiar with the MIR program. I have always thought is was such a great thing. I pray it is not destroyed because of Gustav!!
Leesa, My prayers also are with the people that have been hit so hard already. We can help and we should help and I'm very happy that you posted about this to bring more awareness.
With another hurricane coming it is a great reminded of the devastation that New Orleans suffered and how they have been left to deal with it on their own.
I remember seeing this, then not hearing about it for awhile. I just saw the local news and it appears Gustav is headed right towards Nawlins again. Geezlawheez!

Morning Leesa,
Needless to say, with two growing storms out there we are keeping a watchful eye on things. We pray that they will pass with minimmal rath.
Gary - It tears me up to think of the impact that these storms may have.
Kevin - Thanks for stopping by - and thanks for reading - Make It Right 9 is truly a "from the heart" project that has helped and will continue to help with the support of others.
Audrey - Both projects were (and are) brilliant concepts. I just hope that I can get a little more people familiar with it.
Carole - I am watching all of the evacuations this morning and I just can't imagine what the people are going through. If they need me after this I will be there.
Terry - While no could have prepared for the magnitde of the damage three years ago it was very sad to see the recovery. I can only hope that regardless of how powerful this storm it the clean up, help, aid and actions after the impact will be better and stronger than before.
Greg - Isn't that the way it is with everything? When something is new people are all excited at first and then the enthusiasm wanes.
C - I sincerely appreciate the feature! The more people that read this the more people may get involved. Thank you so much!
Hal - Watching the news this morning there is now a third storm brewing. Nothing less should be expected as it is right at the peak of the season. Thanks for your thoughts!
Leesa - I was not aware of this group, although very aware of N.O. rebuilding. My thoughts and prayers will be with the town this weekend. I will look into MIR9 more closely
Leesa sounds like a great cause. I do hope the storms don't due to much damage. Definitely will keep you in my prayers.
Hey Leesa, Thanks for reminding us about this. I too pray that no one has to suffer such damage. I have had FOXNEWS on most of the day and the last I heard it may be weaken some. My husband made me change the channel when NASCAR came on TONIGHT! Take care!
Hey Leesa,
This is all to close for me. I went to LSU and lived in New Orleans, uptown, from 1988-1990. I have many friends that have been effected by the storms. I have them in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks everyone for all of your heartfelt comments! I do hope that you find the time to visit the site. You are all GREAT!
