This week also has highlighted National Night Out which is a nationwide event that is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support for participation in local anticrime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Also this week is the Purple Heart Recipient Dinner to honor military veterans that received the Purple Heart.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) August Club Meetings

National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug 3; 5 pm – 9 pm
Super Target, 12000 Retail Dr.
Annual event featuring the Wake Forest Police Department, Fire Department and EMS. Food and special prizes, inflatable playground, martial arts demonstration, emergency vehicle displays, K-9 demonstration and DARE presentation. Army National Guard helicopter will fly in and make what is sure to be a memorable landing. For more information, contact Officer S. Graham at sgraham@wakeforestnc.gov.


Water Conservation and Efficiency Workshop
Wednesday, Aug 4; 6 pm
Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Ground Floor Meeting Room
Want to save money on your water bill? Have questions about the new tiered water rate system? The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department is offering a workshop to show you ways to reduce water use and save money. Water rates will increase in July and tiered rates will be introduced in the fall. Both of which can mean an even higher bill. Learn how to adjust personal water use, how to use water saving devices, how to detect leaks on your property, and how the tiered system works. Wake Forest Farmers Market: Canning Demonstration
Saturday, August 7; 8 am – noon
Downtown parking lot, 110 S. White St.
Canning demonstration by Robin Roper. Music provided by Dry Bread. The market offers fresh and locally grown produce, pasture raised beef, lamb, poultry and pork, free range eggs (both chicken and duck). Honey, baked goods, jams and preserves, fresh and dried herbs, handmade soaps, fresh cut flowers, art and crafts. www.wakeforestfarmersmarket.org


Purple Heart Dinner

Saturday, Aug 7; 6 pm – 8 pm
Tuxedo Junction, 405 S. Brooks St.
Tickets are on sale and sponsorships available for the second annual Purple Heart Dinner on  Saturday, August 7 (Purple Heart Day). The dinner is open to the public as it honors military vets who received the Purple Heart. The decoration goes to those wounded or killed while serving with the U.S. military. World War II vets and widows of Purple Heart recipients are also invited to attend free of charge. This year’s featured speaker is retired Marine Col. Wes Fox, who earned the nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor, for valor during the Vietnam War. Tickets are on sale for $15 at The Wake Weekly, 229 E. Owen Ave., Wake Forest. Pancake & Sausage Breakfast

Sunday, Aug 8; 8 am - 1 pm
American Legion Hall, 225 E. Holding Ave.
American Legion Post 187 will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast on the second Sunday of each month at the Legion Hall, across from the Wake Forest Post Office. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice and choice of hot beverage for only $5 per person/$20 max per family. Proceeds support community and veterans projects. Leesa, you must be one happening chick ;)  I bet you do all sorts of fun stuff every day.  Our kids ask to do something fun, and we tell them - "There's the pool."
