Lemon juice can be used for so many different situations around the home! Because of lemons acidity they are perfect for some tough cleaning jobs and are somewhat antiseptic and antibacterial. Here are some great ideas for using lemon juice around the house:
- If you have light colored countertops and they become stained with kool-aid, wine, food stains, etc just pour a little lemon juice on the stain and let stand for a few minutes. After only a few minutes sprinkle some baking soda on the spot and scrub - the stain will disappear. **I have personally tried this on a home I had listed that had a small cigarette burn/stain on a counter and IT WORKED! Now, it wasn't a deep and nasty stain but a stubborn one nonetheless.
- Use a fresh cut lemon to clean your copper pots and copper fixtures! Just cut a lemon into wedges or halves and rub over the copper - it removes spots FAST!
- Add some lemon juice to vinegar and place in a spray bottle - you have a fantastic everyday cleaner!
- GARBAGE DISPOSALS! I am ALWAYS throwing lemons down my garbage disposal! Not only does the juice of the lemon help deoderize the disposal bit the rinds help to sharpen the blades.

Hi Leesa. I use lemon in my garbage disposal and yes it works wonders. ~ Lana
Leesa, My mom has a big lemon tree in Florida, I'll pass this tips on, thanks.
Hi Leesa:
These are some wonderful tips!
Thanks for sharing them with us...
Great tips Leesa, I'll have to try that counter top one!
Leesa,
My grandma taught me this years ago!! Who knew granny was green?? :)...for all the ladies..my grandmother (former Ms. Mississippi) always kept a fresh lemon on hand to wash her face. She only uses lemon juice and water...even now...
Leesa, all very good uses for a natural citrus wonder...lest we forget Tequila & Cointreau..lemon on the rocks. Margaritas anyone?
Good info as usual you little green thing LEESA - hope you are selling like crazy.....
Leesa, great tips. I love the lemons in the disposer, it smells so nice. I had no idea about the baking sode and lemon juice for stains. That is GREAT! Thanks for sharing!
Leesa,
These are some great tips, my grandmother use to use vinegar water and newspaper to clean all glass in the home.
Thanks for the tips!!
Well that just made me pucker right up! Great ideas!
Ice cubes are good for sharpening your disposal blades as well, but they don't smell nearly as good as lemons!
My wife will love all your ideas she is always looking for ways to reduce cost and still have good products. Thanks for the tips.
I'll have to give these a try. It makes sense, these methods have been forgotten since products like 409 and Fantastic came on the market.
By far, my favorite use of the lemon is sliced with a bottle of Corona.
Hey Laxson Associates - Whats your real name? I want to know so I can call you friend when we eat those Lemon Cupcakes!!!! :)
Lana - Yes, they are great for the disposal! Thrown in a few ice cubes and you have a super clean and great smelling sink!
Debbie - I have tried a lemon tree and it just never grew for me! Then again, I don't live in Florida! ;)
Toula - hey girlie! You are more than welcome!
Great tips Leesa!
And don't forget to add a lemon here too.......!!!
As a dog lover I have one more lemon juice tip. If your puppy gets food stains in the hair around their mouth, wash it off/soak it with a little lemon juice. It will make the dingy brown food color go away. The hard part is keeping them still while you do it.
;)
Leesa, I use lemons often and never think of cleaning with them. I'll try it, it's a wonderful idea!
Great tips Leesa. I love the smell of lemons. Great air freshener
Mike - it really works!
Cherimie - Really? Hhmmm, you can't beat a grandma's advice!!!
Steve - sounds so very, very good.....perhaps after cleaning the countertops....
Kathy - it's been busy, that's for sure! Hope you are doing well also!
Marney - Lemons are just awesome! And as you can see by the comments this post has definitely taken a turn! ;)
Don - I have actually used the newspaper and vinegar method - really works!
Thom - Ice cubes are PERFECT for sharpening the blades! I use both at the same time - a little lemonade for my disposal!
Terry - Happy to hear that! Getting ready to share some more today!
Dan - Gotta agree! The Corona and Lemon is the best cleaning method - you FORGET ABOUT CLEANING!
Craig - Agreed!
Leesa - Good stuff! I'd do one on the many uses of bourbon but I always polish off the bottle before I get to try any other uses! No offense guys but I prefer lime with my corona.
Leesa, those are great tips. Who knew lemons had so many great uses!?! I'e heard about putting them down the disposal, but the counter tops idea is new to me. I will definitely keep that in mind. My best favorite use for lemons is squeezing them over a fresh fillet of fish! Also, you're getting close to 300,000 points. That is awesome! I hope I can get to that level someday!
Betina - THAT'S AWESOME! I never knew that and it sounds brilliant - THANKS!
Carole - Hope you get just as good results!
Paddy - Lemon (or any citrus smell) perks me right up!
Nevin - I thought the was the appropriate way to have a Corona as well. hhmmm....
Will - Fresh fish or BROCCOLI! Hope you are well and believe me - you will get there sooner than you think with the fantastic blogging that you are doing!
hmmm you know those glade plug-in's? mine dripped onto my lino - now i have an orange stain i can't get off - think it might work?
Liz - worth a shot! I had one of the plugins do that as well BUT ON CARPET!
By combining a few tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of table salt you have a great copper cleaning agent. Just rub in on and then polish it off…so shiny! If your items are heavily soiled, you can buff the area with ketchup and a sponge. You can also rub lemon on brass and copper to get into any grooves that need cleaning…just be sure to wipe it off once it is clean.
Hi Alicia - Ketchup? Who knew? (Well, I guess you did!) I am off to research what other fine uses their are for ketchup - I smell another "Green" post coming on! Thanks so much!
Hello Leesa, What a roundabout way I happened to come across your lemon tips! (Ironic since lemons are one of my favorite earthly things! They're all over my kitchen; mostly collectibles.) Anyway, I put in a search for 'things to do with unwanted photographs' and there was the "Think Green" logo, "Wake Forest" clearly visible. Sure did grab me. I don't really see the connection with my search, but it was fun to see a 'neighbor' pop up unexpectedly. I see that all of the comments are from 7 months ago; perhaps this won't be picked-up by you close to my writing it. I'll still be looking for a clever use for the 100's of my Dad's pic's I'm going through. Let's keep spreading the word...Mother Earth should be seen through rose green-colored glasses! Diane Petykowski, Wake Forest
Hi Diane!!! Nope, I got the comment! That is a really weird result for your search but I have to admit, I am glad you found me! I did a whole series on "Green" uses for household items. You should check them out if YOU ever know that I return this comment! In the meantime, I am going to think on what you can do with pictures of/from your Dad! Take care and say hi aggain sometime!!!
