Wake Forest, NC has some superb events in store for the upcoming week!  Fesitval Friday continues is historic downtown Wake Forest, A Taste of Wake Forest is this coming weekend and Six Sundays in Spring continues this upcoming Sunday!  Take a peek - there is sure to be an event or two that will interest you!

Notice of Public Hearing for 2009-2010 Proposed Budget
Tuesday, May 19; 7 pm
Town Hall Board Room, 401 Elm Ave.
In accordance with the N.C. General Statutes 159-12(b), the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2009-2010 on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 7 pm or soon thereafter as possible in the Board Room at Town Hall.  The purpose of the hearing is to receive public input for the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009.  All interested citizens are invited to attend the hearing. A copy of the proposed budget is available for public inspection online and in the Town Clerk's office from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Festival Friday - Singer/Songwriter Night
Friday, May 22; 6 pm - 9 pm
Festival Park, 572 S. White Street

Join Festival Friday on the grounds of Festival Park! In the case of rain, the festivities will move indoors. The event, sponsored by the Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment (GJCAE), is free and prizes will be awarded each Festival Friday night to performers. The point of Festival Friday is to provide a venue every Friday night, free to the public, for local teens to gather in a safe, fun environment and encourage local artists to show off their skills. Area residents are encouraged to bring your lounge chairs, blankets and enjoy.

Wake Forest Farmers' Market
Saturday, May 23; 8 am - Noon
Downtown Wake Forest - Municipal Parking Lot 
The market offers fresh produce, pasture-raised beef, poultry and pork, free-range eggs, fresh and dried herbs, honey, jams and preserves, plus a whole lot more. The Farmers' Market is open from 8 am to noon every Saturday April through November. www.wakeforestmarket.org

Taste of Wake Forest
Saturday, May 23; Noon - 7 pm
Festival Park, 525 S. White Street, Wake Forest
Sample delicious food from Wake Forest-area restaurants. Children's activities will be provided throughout the day by Millennium Academy, as well as face painting, a clown, fish-feeding, and much more. Local bands will provide entertainment throughout the day, including Give to Live Guitar Studio, Clark and Dixie/Adjustyd Bluz Band, Lighthouse Jazz Ensemble, and Mr. Felix. Admission is free, so be sure to bring a lawn chair, blanket and an appetite to have a fun-filled day with your family and enjoy a true Taste of Wake Forest. Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series featuring the Casablanca Orchestra

Firing Range Training
Wednesday, May 6; Noon - 8 pm
Police Department Firing Range, behind Flaherty Park Community Center
Residents in the area are advised that the Wake Forest Police Department will conduct firing range training at the police department firing range, located behind the Flaherty Park Community Center. The firing range is utilized by Wake Forest Police officers who require instruction and practice in order to obtain current certification in the use of firearms. National Day of Prayer in Wake Forest

The SEBTS Housing Office is sponsoring a campus-wide yard sale on Saturday, May 9 from 7 am until Noon in the gravel parking lot beside the Wake Forest-Rolesville High School, located on Stadium Drive. Canoe or Kayak for Water Quality
Saturday, May 9; 9 am - Noon
Wake Forest Reservoir Boat Ramp off of Wait Ave.

Join the Town of Wake Forest for water quality testing at the Wake Forest Reservoir. Bring your own canoe or kayak or borrow one from the Town (we only have 20 available so register today if you want to borrow a boat). We will meet at the boat ramp, have a land-based water quality education session and then paddle up the reservoir and test various parameters to determine water quality. We will test for nitrogen, phosphorous, turbidity, pH and temperature. We will also be able to use new equipment purchased through a 319 grant, including a GPS unit that can measure area, a YSI multi-parameter meter, a turbidity meter and hand-held pH and TDS meters.

A session will also be held July 11. This activity is free and open to the public, but reservations must be made for borrowed boats by calling or emailing Holly Spring at (919) 554-3158 or hspring@wakeforestnc.gov. Each participant will be required to sign a waiver form that will be emailed prior to the event. The event lasts approx. 3 hours.


Historic Wake Forest Cemetery Walking Tour
Saturday, May 9; 10 am - Noon
Wake Forest Cemetery, North White St.

Nothing provokes memories of times past and those who preceded us quite like a stroll through the town cemetery - circa 1837. As you walk around the grounds, you will learn about Wake Forest and her people. Veterans of wars, professors and college presidents, teachers and preachers, athletes and aesthetes, writers and poets, young and old, all from the families who established the town and determined its culture and destiny. For more information about the cemetery tour, contact Myra Parker at (919) 556-3326. This is a free event sponsored by the Town of Wake Forest and the Cemetery Advisory Board. Overflow parking will be at the WEB DuBois Center lot beside the new CVS at the corner of North White St. & Highway 98. (Rain date is May 16.) 


Pancake & Sausage Breakfast
Sunday, May 10; 8 am - 1 pm
American Legion Hall, 225 E. Holding Ave., Wake Forest
American Legion Post 187 will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast on the second Sunday of each month at the Legion Hall, across from the Wake Forest Post Office. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice and choice of hot beverage for only $5 per person/$20 max per family. Proceeds support community and veterans projects. Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series featuring ZEGG
Sunday, May 10; 5 pm
Holding Park, 133 W. Owen Ave.
Get movin' with ZEGG (Zero Excuses, Get Groovin') during this free concert! The five-person group blends jazz, rock, bluegrass and funk and features soaring four-part harmonies! In case of rain, the concert will be held at Festival Park. While we welcome you to bring a picnic basket, lawn chair and leashed pet, alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
