NFL/Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick Competition
Sunday, September 23; 4:00 p.m. - RESCHEDULED
Trentini Stadium, Wake Forest Rolesville High School
The Wake Forest Parks & Recreation Department will host a local NFL/Pepsi Punt, Pass, & Kick competition on Sunday, September 23. The event will be held at WF-R High School's Trentini Stadium starting at 4:00 p.m. The event is open to boys and girls ages 8-15. Local event winners will advance to the sectional competition and have a chance to advance to the Team Championship, which will be held in November at a Carolina Panthers game.  Team champions may advance to the NFL championship, which will be held in January at an AFC playoff game. Registration forms are available online at http://www.ci.wake-forest.nc.us/residents/parksrecreation_youthathletics.aspx. There is no cost for the event. Participants are not allowed to wear cleats and should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the event. For more information, call (919) 554-6180.

Energy Fair
Thursday, September 27; 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Ledford Center, Campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
The Town of Wake Forest is sponsoring its 7^th Annual Energy Fair on Thursday, September 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Ledford Center on the campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS). Wake Forest staff will be on hand to discuss the billing process, the town's automated meter reading system, and its array of energy saving programs and services, including Load Management, Online Bill Pay, Automatic Bank Draft and Equal Payment. Mission Quake
Saturday and Sunday, September 29 - 30
Various Locations throughout Wake Forest
Lets break down the walls and join with many churches and organizations in Wake Forest for a wonderful weekend mission focus. Mission Quake provides tremendous opportunities for families and individuals to become involved in meaningful local projects that have a far reach in alleviating human suffering both here and abroad. Here's what's coming up:

"Stop Hunger Now" - This program allows for individuals and families to gather and pack dehydrated food products that will provide direct relief to people who are hungry TODAY! The bag you fill will be held by a hungry person in another country who will be able to live another day because of your kindness. This is a GREAT hands-on mission opportunity for everyone! Shifts run from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29 at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club. We ask that each participant contribute $5.00 for the production of the meals - if possible.  

"The Pint-Sized Paint Project" - The Pint-Sized Paint Project is an effort to come along side elderly homeowners in the Wake Forest area who desperately need some paint and caulking to provide protection against the elements. This project will allow the participant to join with a couple hundred other Wake Forest residents to paint an entire house (or houses!). Each person will paint a small 3x3 section of a small home. By the end of the day the homeowner has a new coat of paint. Great fun, great project! Shifts run from 9:00 am - 4:00pm on Saturday, September 29. Meet at the Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 North Taylor Street, Wake Forest. The houses to be painted are within walking distance of the center. Each participant is asked to bring a 2"-4" soft bristle paint brush. We are holding a work days on Saturday, September 22^nd to prepare the houses for the project. We need volunteers to do light carpentry work, scraping, caulking, etc. We will meet at the Alston-Massenburg Center at 8:30 a.m.  

"Crop Walk" - Crop Walk has a long-standing history of providing food relief around the world, but they also help with digging wells and crop cultivation. Did you know that? Also, did you know that 25% of all money raised stays right here in Wake Forest to help local helping agencies? Meet in the vacant lot across from Tri-Are Ministries on Holding Avenue in Wake Forest on Sunday, September 30 at 2:30 pm. Please sign up sponsors if possible. If not gathering sponsors, please walk and consider a $20 contribution.

2nd Annual Four-Alarm Chili Cook-Off - Wake Forest Farmers' Market
Saturday, September 29; 8:00 a.m. - Noon
Downtown Wake Forest - Municipal Parking Lot
The Second Annual Four Alarm Chili Cook Off. The heat is on to find the next Chili Champion. Proceeds benefit the Wake Forest Fire Department. $100 Cash prize for winning all meat Chili or $20 Market Bucks for Anything Goes, People's Choice Award. Applications available at the Wake Forest Farmers' Market or by contacting Terry Wilkinson at (919) 556-1579. The Farmers' Market offers fresh produce, pasture-raised beef, poultry and pork, free-range eggs, fresh and dried herbs, honey, james and preserves, plus a whole lot more. The market is open Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until noon from April through October.

2nd Annual Craft Fair - NC National Guard Family Readiness Group
Saturday, September 29; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
801 Stadium Drive, across from Durham Regional Hospital and Durham Country Stadium
The Family Readiness Group that supports the NC National Guard 30th STB will be hosting their 2nd Annual Craft Fair. Over 60 local artists and crafters will be displaying and selling their wares.  Pottery, candles, ornaments, stained glass, floral arrangements, quilts, fiber arts, kid crafts, wood working, paintings, jewelry, glass works, and much more will be on display. The event will take place at 801 Stadium Drive, across from Durham Regional Hospital and Durham Country Stadium. etc. For directions or more information go to our website http://www.30frgcraftfair.com/. Come on out and show your support for the NC National Guard Troops and their families.

NC State University's College of Design, in partnership with the National Alumni Association for DuBois High School, has scheduled a community workshop to develop a conceptual plan for redeveloping the center. The workshop will focus on developing a vision for the DuBois High School site, including several aspects in site design and other components related to future development. The workshop is free and open to the public. The workshop process will rely on the direct participation of local residents and stakeholders to develop a plan that will reflect the community's values, needs, and goals for the character of future development for the DuBois High School site. It is our expectation that the plan will take into account aspects of the neighborhood that residents feel provide the identity and the image of the DuBois High School. The workshop will be led by undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the College of Design, NC State University. Problems, expectations, and ideas for improving the existing DuBois High School site will be discussed during the workshop, refining a community-driven vision for the site and the neighborhood. Fall Gardening Program

On September 20 at 6:30 p.m. the Friends of the Wake Forest Library will present a Fall Gardening program featuring Maggie Terry, owner of 4 Seasons Garden Center and VisionScapes. Her presentation will focus on fall gardening projects and deer resistant gardening. Space is limited, so come early. Everyone has been so concerned with how growth has affected the school system (and, rightfully so) that we seemed to have overlooked another group.  Those that aren't quite in school yet.  Daycares and pre-schools are overflowing and more are needed - NOW!  Remember when you use to sleep out in front of a concert venue to get in first or stand in line at the bookstore in the wee hours of the morning to get the latest Harry Potter?  Well, join the long list of parents that are going to drastic measure to be sure that their children get into a daycare/preschool.
